Davao City, Philippines- 6-foot-1 power forward JC Peregrino ends his Compostela Valley football career as he moved on from comval to JMC Kings, Davao City in April 2019.

You read it right, must read it twice. The 16-year-old comval native is one of the best footballers in town. He has won the best keeper in one of the prestigious leagues in the province. As the year goes by, his height getting taller that the Nabunturan Comprehension High School basketball coach notice and give him a try.

One year later, the basketball league happens in Compostela. Coach of the opposing team JMC, Roxas Pancio sees potential in him and recruits him to Davao City.

“April 2019, My teammate who is also from Nabunturan, Andrei Sambas joined me heading to Davao City. Later that day, I joined the training and eventually enrolled in JMC.”

2019 was his rookie year in basketball and in JMC. But coaches saw something in him that in all national and local leagues he is in the starting line-up.

This former footballer just learned basketball for 2 years today. Watching him play is like watching a home-grown milo kid.

“My father wants me to become a basketball player. My mom doesn’t want to, but later on, she supports me even more.”

First, his parents don’t want him to push through his basketball dream in Davao City as its too far away from Nabunturan. Some of his memorable leagues like PRISAA Line Meet, his parents not able to watch it live winning the gold medal.

One of his championship game in Davao City with the team, his proud parents Jeanilyn and Jolley Peregrino is present on his second championship-winning game.

He is also part of the JMC Kings when they fought hard for the spot of the NBTC Davao City Qualifiers and in DCAA 2019.

This time of the pandemic, JC Peregrino is now having a lot of time with his family in Compostela Valley. He makes sure that he’s doing a home workout when in no time the team will be called out for their training after the quarantine.
